Guidelines for entry

• Cosmetology Contest is based on the model that has the best finished, total look (hair style, make up, and clothing), the Esthetics Contest is judged by the best makeup application.
• All models must be 13 years or older and cannot be men or children
• Esthetics contestants must have their model wear all black formal dress with their hair pulled away from their face. You are judged on the best evening glamour look of the model’s makeup.
• No cutting or chemical services will be performed on the models the day of the competition, you will be responsible for the overall style of the models (hair, makeup, and clothing), you will not be judged on the haircut or color of your models hair. (Cosmetology Contest only)
• Contestants must work alone on their model
• Contestants must bring all of their own supplies, tools, and clothing that they will need to prepare their model for the contest.

Entry Submission

Contestants must complete both the essay and question section of the application and email it to Spartin@brownaveda.com or send it to Susan Partin at Brown Aveda Institute 8816 Mentor Ave Mentor, Ohio 44060, or 19336 Detroit Rd Rocky River Ohio 44116, no later than Friday July 30th, 2010 by 5pm. You may get the questions and essay by filling out our contact page and selecting Scholarship information. 
 

Contest Details

• Those selected to compete will be contacted.
• When both Cosmetology and Esthetics contestants arrive there will be a before picture taken that will be given to the judges that evening so they can judge the best before and after model.
• The day of the competition you will be given 5 hours to complete the models hair makeup and clothing, you are required to bring all of your own supplies and products to perform these tasks.
• It is not a requirement to enroll prior to the competition, if chosen as a winner you may register after that evening.

Winner Selection

• The judging panel will be comprised of stylists, salon owners, alumni industry professionals.
• Finalists will be scored on their essay, model transformation (before and after), and overall model look to determine the winners.  Each category will count for 1/3 of the finalist’s total score.
• All winners will be selected on merit. Brown Aveda Institute will not discriminate on the basis of age, color, sex, or creed, or any other characteristics protected by law.

Application Requirements

• contestants with any prior industry training or schooling are not eligible to participate
• to be eligible to compete you must be in your last year of high school, GED, or a graduate

Scholarship Details:

• There will be two full scholarships in Cosmetology awarded and one Esthetics full scholarship awarded that will include all tuition, kit, enrollment and application fees.
• Scholarships can be used at either Mentor or Rocky River locations.
• All winners of the contest must complete all admission requirements in order to accept scholarship.
• Scholarship is null and void if program is not completed.
• Please complete the following questions and essay and submit by email or drop off at either location, no later than 5pm on Friday, July 30th, 2010. If emailing application please do not write out the questions or essay, simply number them in order. Please include all information asked on the first page of the application, so we have all your correct contact information.
